In the process, you will be responsible for complete ownership of translating brainstorms and designs into reliable, scalable interactive web apps.

Software Engineer

Qwiki is pioneering a new method of information discovery via a groundbreaking "information experience". Our technology transforms raw data into beautiful presentations describing millions of people, places and things. We seek a Software Engineer to help improve the quality of our experience, creating beautiful Qwikis by intelligently extracting data & assembling presentations from relevant web reference sources. In this role, you'll power the Qwiki experience for millions of users across the web and iPad, creating complex search behaviors and solving scalability challenges, and exclusively contribute to a high profile upcoming launch - distributing your work to tens of millions of users worldwide.

About the Position:

You have the skills of a seasoned engineer and the mentality of a hacker who can switch hats when necessary to do what it takes to get the job done. You'll work with the core engineering team and own a big part of Qwiki's data backend.

Requirements:

  • Code primarily in Java, Scala or Ruby
  • Operate Amazon's Web Services for scale and stability
  • Handle the linux stack (we use Ubuntu)
  • Use source control (we use git)

Qualifications:

  • BS or better in Computer Science or related

Qwiki’s new Soho, New York City office needs a professional that matches the dynamism of NYC’s creative community. Qwiki professionals are maniacally focused on creating the future of content creation and sharing, and we need someone equally focused on ensuring the Qwiki ship sails smoothly. The ideal candidate has prior office administration experience and is comfortable working directly with the CEO or COO, as well as interacting with senior professionals at external firms.

About the Position:

  • Manage all things related to Qwiki’s new office in the heart of Soho
  • Shadow COO to assist in company operations, including business development, financial management, employee benefits, and general office administration
  • Assist CEO and COO with day-to-day responsibilities, including scheduling, research and professional correspondence
  • Work directly with Qwiki’s Controller to assist in financial administration

Requirements:

  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude that reflects the many hats worn by all employees at any fast-growing company

About the right candidate:

You will work directly with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), assisting with all aspects of operations, including finance, accounting, and business development.

Responsibilities:

  • Examples of typical projects are:
    • Performing research on mobile technology markets
    • Tracking VC deals
    • Conducting competitor analyses
    • Editing financial statements
  • You will also assist the Office Manager with task-based projects to keep the office running smoothly
  • 15 – 20 hours per week; occasional weekend tasks
